Northern and Southern Giant Petrels are almost identical; the only difference is the colour of their beak tip.  Northern Giant Petrels have a red tip, and southerns have a green tip.  They are scavengers and often flew very close to the ship - much closer than the shyer albatrosses. They have a wing span of nearly 7 feet.
